My Birth Story.
I woke up at 3.45 am Monday 31st August 2015 needing a wee. I got back into bed then I felt a little trickle, I went to catch it don’t no why lol then a small gush came as I jumped up quickly sat back on the toilet and weed again. I was a little unsure if this was my waters breaking as there didn’t feel like a lot. I felt my pj bottoms and they were soaked, so I thought oooo this might be it. However I went back to bed as I had no pain. An hour later I started to get stomach cramp, it felt like I needed to poo so again I sat on the toilet. That lasted about a minute and with it I had a small poo staying seated for comfort 13 min later another cramp came had another poo after that 7min later another small poo.
I read somewhere that your body releases its bowels when it preparing for the babies arrival but I didn’t expect it to be while in labour.
I felt I no longer needed to poo and 6min after that had another stomach cramp. The cramps just seemed to be coming on and of every two minutes. I called the hospital they said come straight in. I jumped in the shower, just needed to feel fresh. Got dressed. Myself and my fella got in the car my mum drove us I felt dazed and in pain so kept my eyes shut, breathing with the pain we arrived at the hospital at 5.30 they took us straight to the assessment room. I got examined, I was 5cm dilated. Relieved to know the pain was real.
Did you know your breech?
No I was told my baby was head down and had been for a while never any mention of a breech baby throughout the pregnancy.
My own personal nightmare would be to have a c section. I just never want to have one unless life or death situation. Being very into nature and the natural way I just feel child birth should be left to be as natural as possible.
When I heard them say breech I instantly thought right I’ll have to have a c section. It was my understanding you cant delivery a breech baby naturally and its life or death so that is then why you would need a c section.
They then said we need to get you on the monitors and scan the baby to see the position he’s In, I was taken to a new room and they did just so.
As I was being scanned I was told my baby was in the correct position for a vaginal breech delivery. I thought I had made it up in my head. You can naturally deliver a breech baby, I just never knew.
That’s what I’m going To do deliver the baby breech naturally.
I had the most supportive, encouraging, fantastic midwife. She encourage my decision to try deliver vaginally and I didn’t feel pressured or scared into a c section. The doctor on the other hand rushed In having just came from surgery said your baby’s breech you have to have a c section or he could get serebal palsey looked at his watch I have to go. No support trying to scare me. I didn’t like him. I said to the midwife I don’t want a c section I want to try deliver. She said go for it.
I was in the delivery suite with my mum, fella, a senior midwife, trainee midwife and a different doctor kept coming in and out to check. Monitors were on my stomach to check baby’s heart beat. Contractions were coming fast and strong I stayed silent, closed my eyes and zoned out breathing through the pain. I got to 8cm with out any help or pain relief. At 8cm I tried gas and air this helped tremendously. I very quickly went to 10cm.
Your fully dilated, cervix is out of the way there’s a clear path for baby are you ready, yes let’s get him out. The words didn’t come out my mouth as couldn’t bring myself to speak I gave a thumbs up and started pushing when the contractions came. I wasn’t pushing hard enough to start with and the baby wasn’t moving very fast coming down but going back up.
Right Corri you really need to give it your all push like never before. I was pushing for about an hour. I was told I went purple my muscles and vain popping I was getting this baby out. I started to feel him come out bum legs body then the head push push he was out.
They took him away to check he was ok I quickly heard noise and they brought him back to me lay him on my chest and instantly forgot the pain I had just been through and was so relieved I had deliver my baby safely.
